This past Saturday we took a road trip down to Fresno for the Haruo Imamura tournament hosted by Fresno State and Fresno Judo Club. We had four competitors – Jackie Chan, Addison Howe, Christine Redor and Basil Farooq competing in Brown belt and novice divisions. Christine took first place in the heavyweight novice division and then had several exhibition rounds with black belts from Fresno and UCLA where she fought hard and got some great experience. Addison and Basil had several tough rounds – but both scored several wazaris and ippons during the matches and each took silver in their respective divisions. Jackie was thrown into the brown belt division and fought hard. After some initial scares with his knee he was able to pull off some good scores and took gold in the division with a hard fought final match that went down to the wire.
After the results from the individual competition were announced we were excited that Cal had also won first place in the Men’s Team division and second place in the Women’s team – both outstanding results.
Congratulations to all the competitors for the hard work and strong performances. Go Bears!
